Hongo Shin Memorial Museum of Sculpture, Miyanomori, Sapporo

Hongo Shin Memorial Museum of Sculpture
This place is written as [本郷新記念 札幌彫刻美術館] in Japanese.

Shin Hongo (1905–1980) was a prominent Japanese sculptor after WWII. He was a student of Kotaro Takamura and his style is reminiscent of the French sculptor Rodin. The museum dedicated to Hongo and his achievements comprises two buildings. One of these buildings was formerly his house and gallery. The main museum displays Hongo’s works and hosts special exhibitions.

The memorial museum houses about 400 sculptures and 700 drawings by Shin Hongo, along with plaster cast models, tools, and furniture. After Hongo’s death in 1980 at the age of 74, his family donated his remaining works to the city of Sapporo.

Although it is a small museum, it is worth visiting due to its rich collection and beautiful location.
