Despite it being only mid-June, the lavender at Farm Tomita has already started to bloom.
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the parking lot at Farm Tomita was already filling up by the morning, possibly due to the weekend.
I was quite surprised to see that most of the parked cars were rentals. There were also more than ten tour buses, and the majority of the tourists appeared to be from South Korea, Taiwan, and China.
It seems that the situation has returned to what it was before the coronavirus pandemic.
I usually thought that lavender began blooming in late June, so even though it was just the beginning of the bloom, the flower fields were already beautiful enough to be seen in photos.
I believe the tourists were very satisfied to be able to see the lavender at this time of the year.
The temperature exceeded 25 degrees Celsius on that day, which is hot for June in Hokkaido, but the dry heat, unlike the humidity of Honshu, made it a comfortable day.
Even so, it was still hot, and ice cream sold throughout the garden was in high demand. The most popular ice cream here is lavender-colored, and almost everyone was enjoying it.
The lavender and flower fields on the mountain side still seemed to be in preparation, but they will likely be fully open by late June.
The best viewing period is until the end of July, but last year, possibly due to the effects of global warming, the lavender had faded by mid-July, and the season ended earlier than usual.
This year, the lavender season might also be early, so if you want to enjoy the lavender at Farm Tomita, it might be best to visit by mid-July.
Hokkaido also sees an increase in traffic accidents during this season, so those visiting by rental car should drive safely.
