Mt.Hakodate Ropeway

Mt.Hakodate Ropeway
This place is written as [函館山ロープウェイ] in Japanese.

The Mt. Hakodate Ropeway introduced its renewed gondolas on November 7, 2014. These gondolas feature windows that are 10% larger and can accommodate 125 passengers.

From the ropeway, you can enjoy stunning views of Hakodate City. This is a must-visit spot.

The ropeway typically departs every 15 minutes, but during peak times, departures are every 5 to 10 minutes.

If you want to see Hakodate’s night view, riding this ropeway is highly recommended. While you can drive up to the summit of Mt. Hakodate during the daytime, it’s crucial to be cautious about the timing for viewing the night scenery. Please refer to the parking information below.

During the night viewing hours, the roads can be very congested, and vehicles other than buses and taxis are not allowed. The ropeway also experiences heavy congestion during the night viewing hours, and waiting for 30 minutes to an hour is not uncommon. There are four paid parking lots nearby, but they fill up quickly during the night viewing hours. You cannot wait on the road to enter the parking lot; you will likely be instructed by security personnel not to stop your car.

If the parking lots near the ropeway are full, consider looking for parking in a slightly lower area. For related information, please refer to the parking article in the related information section.
