This place is written as [二条市場] in Japanese.
This is the oldest fish market in Sapporo, with its origins dating back to the early Meiji era. Initially formed as a union of 13 separate fish markets, it thrived under the name “Central Market” (中央市場) before World War II. Post-war, it became known as “Nijo Fish Market” (二条市場). The market specializes in retailing marine products such as salmon and kegani (crab), as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Located in North 12, West 20, Chuo-ku on the west side of Sapporo, the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market is the largest wholesale market in Hokkaido. Despite its historical and economic significance, the market continues to be cherished by both locals and tourists alike.
