Sapporo Pirka Kotan, known as the Ainu Culture Promotion Center, showcases the essence of Ainu culture.
The museum comprises two main facilities. One features indoor exhibitions displaying various Ainu artifacts related to their daily life, such as clothing, household items, and hunting tools. The other facility is an outdoor exhibition that showcases traditional Ainu houses and other structures.
Located along the route to Jozankei Onsen in an area known as Koganeyu (小金湯), the museum is the largest of its kind in the greater Sapporo area. Koganeyu is renowned for its hot springs, which are highly favored by Sapporo residents and are comparable to those in Jozankei Onsen.
One unique aspect of the museum is that visitors are encouraged to touch all displays, allowing for a more immersive understanding of Ainu culture and lifestyle.
