The Sapporo Winter Sports Museum, which had been closed from 2016, was renovated and reopened in 2017 as the Sapporo Olympic Museum.
In 2016, the museum’s membership in the Olympic Museum Network (OMN), headquartered in Switzerland, was officially recognized. This new status allows the facility to strengthen its collaboration with Olympic museums around the world.
The renovated museum features a large-scale panoramic theater that lets visitors experience the excitement and emotion of the Olympics, as well as exhibits tracing the history of the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. Additionally, to more deeply pass on the legacy of Sapporo as an Olympic host city to future generations, new sections have been established covering the evolution from the ancient Olympics to the modern Olympics and the history of the Paralympics.
These updates make the museum a fascinating and excellent place to learn about the history and ideals of the Olympics and Paralympics.
